Sharon Kalwani, president of SEMCO, will start the meeting and make general announcements.
Since May 12, 2024 we have been using a Hybrid Zoom and IN PERSON format for our meetings. For In Person location see below. Come and join us in person if you can.
Members will also receive an email on the day of the meeting, with the link and any further details and instructions about how to log into the meeting.

SIG Computing Topic: Using Windows 11 File Explorer Best Practices

Introduction
File Explorer is one of the most frequently used tools in Windows 11, yet many users take advantage of only a small portion of what it can do. Whether you are trying to locate a document, organize photos, move files to a flash drive, work with OneDrive, or simply clean up a crowded Downloads folder, learning a few File Explorer best practices can make everyday computing much easier.
In this presentation, Using Windows 11 File Explorer Best Practices, attendees will explore practical ways to organize, locate, manage, and protect their files. The program will review the Windows 11 File Explorer interface, including the Navigation Pane, Home, This PC, tabs, folder views, and the address and search bars.
The presentation will also cover sensible folder organization, meaningful file-naming techniques, and ways to quickly sort, group, and search for files. Attendees will see the difference between copying and moving files, how to use drag-and-drop safely, and how File Explorer tabs can make working between folders easier.
OneDrive and Cloud-Based Files
Special attention will be given to OneDrive and cloud-based files, including understanding synchronization and status icons, Files On-Demand, and keeping important files available offline. Other useful features will include the Preview and Details panes, ZIP files, file extensions, keyboard shortcuts, the Recycle Bin, and simple backup practices.
The emphasis throughout the presentation will be on practical habits rather than complicated procedures. The goal is simple: help Windows 11 users spend less time searching for files and more time confidently managing them.

Presenter: Bill James
Bill James is Vice President of Operations for the Computer Club of Oklahoma City and serves as a Region 8 Advisor for the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG), supporting technology and computer user groups throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Bill has been involved with the Computer Club of Oklahoma City for many years and regularly develops and presents programs on Windows, Android, Google services, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, smartphones, consumer technology, and other topics of interest to everyday computer users.
A retired federal employee with more than four decades of government service, including a career with the Federal Aviation Administration, Bill brings a practical, user-oriented approach to technology. His presentations are designed to make technical subjects understandable and useful, particularly for users who want to become more confident and productive with the technology they use every day.

SIG-Linux: Linux but on the ARM processor

Linux on the ARM Processor
For this session – we will focus on the world of Linux but on the ARM processor.
ARM (Originally it stood for Acorn RISC Machine) is a UK designed processor, which they license to anyone who wishes to use it in their products. It has been successfully used by Apple, hundreds of SBC (single board computers – such as Raspberry Pi) etc.
Linux on Mainframes and Supercomputers
More recently (well last at least the 5 years) it has been adopted by Fujitsu (in addition to the SUN SPARC processor) to power their giant mainframes and supercomputers.
I will speak to both the microprocessor variants, history as well as successful distros that are ARM based. This is a completely new topic for SEMCO and many expect ARM to continue to grow and become a fruitful alternative to X86 and AMD based systems.
